Brussels – June 22, 2016
On 22nd June, the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) organised a breakfast meeting in the context of the ‘Cycling Forum Europe’, a platform where Members of the European Parliament and other stakeholders could meet to prepare the ground for the future EU Cycling Strategy. The Luxembourg Declaration on Cycling, which was adopted by the EU Transport Ministers in October 2015, recommends the European Commission to develop ‘a EU level strategic document on cycling’, which CONEBI warmly welcomes.
Marketa Pape of the European Parliament Research Service, Mr. Kevin Peel of the Committee of the Regions, Mr. Eric Terrerro of the Dutch Presidency and Mr. Piotr Rapcz, the Cycling Contact Person of the European Commission’s DG Move first presented their views, after which the various participants – including CONEBI – joined the debate with their inputs: important aspects such as infrastructures, safety, data collection, education, urban planning, CO² emissions and economic benefits were addressed.
